HOW WE THINK ABOUT OUR IMPACT

At Khali Min we believe that luxury is defined by quality, performance and a commitment to sustainable practices. We take pride in provenance and ownership of our process, from tree to tresses.

Khali Min’s commitment to sustainability spans our operations: from ingredient selection through formulation, package design, manufacturing, shipping, use, and material circulation.

European Commission research on the environmental profile of shampoos and conditioners attributes 20-28% of their impact to their use phase. As leave-in products that do not require washing out, Khali Min’s Clean Cream and Rescue Oil sidestep this impact.

SUSTAINABILITY IN OUR INGREDIENTS

We carefully select our ingredients, taking into consideration how they are farmed, harvested, processed and used. Below are some examples.

Jojoba and Moringa Oils: We directly support an Egyptian supplier who uses modern irrigation methods to reduce water usage and solar energy to power operations.

Aloe Vera: We source our Aloe Vera from a fairtrade-certified company that purchases from small and medium organic farms in Mexico.

Shea Butter: Our supplier partners with ProForest to maintain a sustainable supply chain that connects directly with women’s collectives. The form of this Shea that we used won the Best Sustainable Ingredient award in 2014 (The Sustainable Beauty Awards) organised by the UK-based Organic Monitor.

Rapeseed Oil: Closer to home, we chose prized British oil pressed from Rapeseed grown by farmers in the fields of North Yorkshire.

Lime Oil: Ecocert-certified, ours is part of a range that was specifically designed to reduce water waste; it is a by-product of food waste and is renewable and easily biodegradable.

MANUFACTURING, PACKAGING AND PACKING

All of our products are manufactured in England’s South Downs area, and the majority of our packaging is made in the UK. We have partnered with a family-owned company with expertise in small batch cosmetics. They pair this tradition with a deep commitment to sustainability: 50% of the energy for their facilities is solar-power generated.

All of our packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable. In our limited printed materials, we use FSC-certified paper stock and vegetable-based inks.

Where necessary, we use high quality HDPE plastic which is widely recyclable. Khali Min is exploring post consumer recycled material for upcoming products as well as lower impact refills.

In the Spring of 2021 we launched with Selfridge’s Project Earth as a sustainable British brand. Project Earth explores the most exciting design innovations, retail concepts and ground-breaking ideas in sustainability.

We are independently certified by the Vegan Society. Our products are individually assessed annually to verify that there are no animal ingredients involved in any stage of our process.
